How To Write Your Own Personality Essay

Crafting A Personality Essay

Crafting your own personality essay for your University of Chicago admission essay portion can be a challenging task.  How do you write something that clearly conveys your personality in a way that makes it stand out from the crowd and makes you a strong candidate for admission?  The transformation essay, or a personality essay dealing with change and growth, is a common topic.  It’s also a topic that we can help you with!

Here’s one of our essays on this extremely popular MBA admissions topic:

“Tell us about something that has fundamentally transformed the way you think.”

Sample Personality Essay

The biggest single transformative moment of my life occurred a year ago when my friend Aaron died.

Aaron and I met in first grade and immediately became the best of friends.  He and I would do everything together—play sports on the playground, eat lunch in the cafeteria, get in trouble on the way home from school . . . we grew up together, wrestling with grades, girls, and everything else that a typical kid growing up in the heart of the Midwest deals with.

I still remember the day he asked Melissa to prom, near the end of Junior year.  It looked spontaneous—only I knew that he’d been thinking about her for weeks.  He “ran into” her outside of her locker while I watched from afar; a huge smile on his face told me everything I need to know as she blushed.

He died that afternoon, in a car crash on the way home from school.

I’m still getting over it, but there’s a lot that I’ve learned.  I never approach a day the same way, after the accident . . . I know now how finite life is and how precious every moment can be.  I don’t want to waste a second of it, because I know that Aaron wouldn’t want me to.
