Cornell MBA Admissions Help

Cornell MBA admissions accept around 469 students each year from in excess of 2000 applicants, therefore if this is your first choice you really do need to ensure that you do your homework to ensure that your application is going to be one of the top ones reviewed by the selections committee. It is tough getting into any MBA program but the top business schools are the hardest. If you want to get through Cornell MBA admissions you will have to ensure that your grades are exemplary and your essays are perfectly written to grab their attention.

Requirements for Cornell MBA admissions

Like most other MBA programs Johnsons do not specify any minimum when it comes to things such as your GMAT or your GPA. They do want students that are capable of performing academically but they are also looking for those that can demonstrate drive and leadership ability. Because of the large number of applicants they can very much take their pick of the better performing candidates and as such the average scores for those accepted through Cornell MBA admissions are:

  • GMAT – 693
  • GPA – 3.3
  • With 5 years of work experience

Your best chances of selection obviously come if you can match or better these averages, however many get accepted with less but you need to work that little bit harder for your other requirements:

  • Targeted Resume
  • Three Essays + one optional
  • Two Recommendation letters + one optional

You are applying to an MBA program so you should treat your Resume very differently, they are not looking to see what positions you have held and what responsibility you had; they want to see how your career has progressed and what you have actually achieved. Your resume should clearly show that you have bettered yourself and that you can work with others to achieve results.

Your essays should also reflect this same drive and ambition when you answer their questions; your essays have to be able to sell you as the perfect candidate for their MBA program without bragging.

The letters of recommendation also need to clearly show that you have leadership potential and ambition; many referees will happily let you write a letter for them to endorse if you ask.
